A convicted sex offender from Round Lake was sentenced to six months in jail Tuesday for not keeping his registration current.
Jeffery Donaldson, 25, will be released from jail for work and counseling, Lake County Assistant State's Attorney James Newman said.
Donaldson, who was convicted of a sex offense as a juvenile, registered with police in Round Lake Beach in March 2009.
Newman said when Donaldson's yearly renewal date came in March of this year and he did not re-register with police, an officer was sent to the address to look for him.
The house was found vacant, Newman said, and police contacted his stepfather at a phone number Donaldson had provided police.
Donaldson's stepfather directed them to an address in the 24000 block of Clinton Avenue in Round Lake, Newman said, where Donaldson was located.
In addition to the jail time, Donaldson was placed on probation for a year and fined $500.
Newman said Donaldson could have faced up to five years in prison if he had been convicted after a trial.
