ST. LOUIS -- A southwestern Illinois police officer accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy may be tried again after jurors couldn't decide if he was innocent or guilty.
A St. Louis judge declared a mistrial in the case of 37-year-old Juan McCoy on two counts of statutory sodomy.
Authorities say the alleged abuse happened between June and August of 2007 at McCoy's St. Louis home and was unrelated to his work as a police officer in the Illinois village of Washington Park.
The boy is now 17. He testified that McCoy paid him $100 to have sex and that McCoy was a family friend.
But McCoy's attorney argued that there were too many inconsistencies in the claims made by the boy and his mother.
McCoy is on unpaid leave from his police job.
