EDWARDSVILLE -- An Alton woman who admits she killed her 22-month-old stepson in a fit of rage is headed to prison for 40 years.
A Madison County judge handed down the sentence Thursday against 29-year-old Jami Anderson.
Anderson pleaded guilty in November to first-degree murder.
Authorities say Anderson slammed Chase Anderson's head into a door frame last March. The stepmother first told investigators the toddler was injured in a fall, but she later confessed she lost her temper.
The child died of head trauma at a St. Louis hospital.
Prosecutors had sought as much as a 50-year sentence on the murder count, which was punishable by up to six decades in prison. Anderson's attorney asked the judge for no more than 20 years in prison.
