A Buffalo Grove man was sentenced to 24 years in prison Wednesday after admitting he molested three young girls.
Michael Newby, 54, pleaded guilty to predatory sexual assault of a child, aggravated criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual assault during a hearing before Associate Judge Christopher Stride.
Assistant State's Attorney Mary Stanton said Newby was arrested last year when local police, acting on a tip from the FBI, went to his house in the 900 block of Hilldale Lane to search for child pornography.
Pornography was found and Newby was charged with its possession, but investigators then contacted several young women known to have associated with Newby when they were children.
Stanton said the first of Newby's victims told police he had molested her repeatedly in 1999 when she was 6 years old.
Another woman told police Newby molested her in 2000 when she was 13 to 14 years old.
The third victim said Newby began molesting her in 2005 when she was 16, and the abuse continued until April 2007.
Officials agreed to drop the pornography charges in exchange for Newby's guilty pleas to the sex crimes.
Stride told Newby he will have to serve at least 85 percent of the prison term before he will be eligible for parole.
In addition, Stride said, Newby will most likely be on parole and required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life once he is released from prison.
