A Zion man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges he raped an 8-year-old girl.
Cameron B. Flint, 33, faces a mandatory prison sentence of six to 30 years if convicted of predatory sexual assault of a child and criminal sexual assault.
Assistant State's Attorney George Pappas said Flint, of the 3000 block of Elisha Avenue, was arrested Oct. 7 after an investigation by Winthrop Harbor police.
The victim, who is now 11 years old, told officials at her school on Sept. 23 she had been raped by Flint about three years ago.
Pappas said Cameron was a friend of relatives of the girl, and raped her one day when he had been left alone with her.
The school officials the girl spoke to notified the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, who called Winthrop Harbor police, Pappas said.
Circuit Judge John Phillips scheduled a trial of the case for Dec. 14 and ordered Flint, who is held on $1 million bond, to appear in court Dec. 7.
