Tryouts and clinics for community sports groups, plus sporting events and tournaments, skate competitions, public appearances by sports stars in the area, autograph signings, sports conventions, etc. Deadline is two weeks before event date.

The Ducks: Registration is now in progress for the Des Plaines Park District Summer Recreation Swim Team, The Ducks. Semi-competitive team allows those with little or no team experience to learn the strokes of competitive swimming. Daily practice session from 5-7 p.m. at Chippewa Pool, Des Plaines. $155-$194. Couples Golf League: The Couples "Fun Golf" League at Mount Prospect Golf club is seeking golfers with its Friday night league. Play runs from May-August with tee-times beginning at 5:20 p.m. For information, call Karen or Mark at (847) 394-3524.

Ladies Gold League: Registration is in progress for the Des Plaines Park District's Ladies Gold League 2009 season. Golf begins Tuesday, May 12 or Thursday, May 14, with 4:30-6:30 p.m. tee times at the Lake Park Golf Course, Howard and Lee streets. The league runs 13 weeks, with rain dates if needed. Memorial Day Tournament: Applications due Thursday, April 30, for event Friday through Monday, May 22-25, Olympic Park, Schaumburg. Applications are being accepted for the 2009 Grove United/Soccer Madness Memorial Day Shootout. Registration fees are $425 for U8-U12 teams or $475 for U13-U19 teams. White Sox outing: 4:45 p.m. bus departs Thursday, May 7, from St. Theresa parking lot to Cellular Field, Chicago.
