Alcatel-Lucent cuts some area positions

NAPERVILLE -- Alcatel-Lucent said it issued layoff notices to some workers at its Naperville and Lisle campus Thursday but declined to provide specifics. "It was not a large number of people," Alcatel-Lucent spokeswoman Mary Lou Ambrus said. Since Lucent Technologies merged with Paris-based Alcatel, it aimed to eliminate 10,000 jobs worldwide by 2009. Ambrus said the campus has about 4,000 employees and contractors.
