A Johnsburg man is dead after driving his snowmobile into trees and a retaining wall either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. The accident took place near Half Moon Island in McHenry, near the mouth of the Fox River in Johnsburg. McHenry County Deputy Coroner Paula Gallas said Jim Washburn, 40, a former resident of Gurnee, was declared dead at 1 p.m. Wednesday. He died from blunt trauma injuries to the head, Gallas said. Washburn was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, she said. Officials from the Illinois Conservation Police are handling the investigation. Calls to them were not returned Thursday.

Quiet zone delayed

A quiet zone scheduled to go into effect today along the Milwaukee District North rail line through Libertyville and Grayslake has been delayed. Libertyville officials said there were last-minute concerns by rail agencies regarding one of the crossings. The village continues to push to have the quiet zone, in which trains are prohibited from sounding their horns at crossings, in place as soon as possible. Updates are available at www.libertyville.com.

No forum on sex charges

A public forum regarding alleged sexual abuse at a Wauconda church summer camp will not be held. Officials of the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church said in a release earlier this week they would host a forum Sunday to discuss issues surrounding the recent arrest of a 17-year-old former camp counselor on allegations he abused two children ages 7 and 8. A church employee Thursday said no meeting will be held nor had that been the intent.
