Glenbard West (4-0, 2-0) at Proviso West (3-1, 0-1)

Game time: 7 p.m. today.

Last year: Glenbard West 41, Proviso West 0.

Last week: Glenbard West 42, Oak Park 0; York 16, Proviso West 14.

Outlook: Last year Proviso West earned its first playoff berth and won an opening-round game in Class 8A. Hilltoppers coach Chad Hetlet believes this Panthers team - headed by experienced quarterback Malik Thurman and running back Julius Johnson - is even better. Glenbard West's Nick Burrello and Kendall Johnson are devastatingly effective in the running and passing game. Keep an eye on receiver Mark Hiben and the possible return of running back Trace Sorey from a knee injury. Junior defensive lineman Tommy Schutt is as good as they come up front. Linebacker Beau Warden and safety Mike Laning bolster a hard-hitting defense.

Next week: Addison Trail at Glenbard West; Proviso West at Downers Grove North.
