A 32-year-old Elk Grove Village man died Tuesday afternoon from injuries suffered when his motorcycle crashed into a semi truck trailer in Elk Grove Township.

The truck was westbound on Higgins Road, west of Landmeier, in the left lane and turning right into a parking lot. The motorcycle was in the right lane and drove into the side of the tractor trailer about 11:40 a.m., Elk Grove Township Fire Chief Michael Nelson said.

"He didn't have enough room and maybe he didn't see the signal," Nelson said.

The man, Marius Koziel, was thrown off the motorcycle and lay on the ground next to the truck.

"He was unresponsive and in critical condition," Nelson said.

Koziel suffered head and chest injuries and was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital's Level 1 trauma center in Park Ridge about noon. Doctors were able to revive him, but he died around 1:30 p.m., Nelson said.

The truck driver was not hurt or taken to the hospital. There was some damage to the body of the truck where the motorcycle struck it.

The Cook County Sheriff's Police's accident reconstruction unit is still investigating the crash.
