JOLIET -- Drew Peterson has detailed his life in solitary confinement in a letter to a Chicago newspaper columnist.

In a 10-page handwritten letter, Peterson tells Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed that he sleeps "on a lawnchair mattress on a cement slab."

He says his only human contact at the Will County Jail is with guards and the inmate worker who brings him meals and clean clothes.

He also says officers regularly search his cell and strip-search him.

The 56-year-old former Bolingbrook police officer is charged with murder in the 2004 drowning death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

He's also a suspect in the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy. He hasn't been charged in the Stacy Peterson case.
