'Annie' in West Chicago:

The West Chicago Park District Community Theater will perform "Annie" at 7 tonight and Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday in the Weyrauch Auditorium at Community High School in West Chicago, 326 Joliet St. Jamee Keeney, a sixth-grade teacher at Turner School and co-director of the school's annual musical, will direct the 50-member cast. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the park district, 157 W. Washington St. in West Chicago, or at the door. Yo-yos as art:

Gallery 28 in Geneva is having the "YO! Art On A YoYo All Ages Community Art Contest and Show." Participants can get an unassembled, unfinished yo-yo at the gallery, 28 N. Fourth St., or use their own. Designs must include art done on or two a standard-sized yo-yo. Entry is free, and a popular vote will determine the winner. Entries are due Saturday. Anonapalooza fundraiser:

The Anonapalooza Family Summerfest is from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Good Templar Park, 528 East Side Drive, Geneva. There are four musical stages, a drum circle, a magician, a picnic, softball and volleyball and more. It is a fundraiser for Serenity House addictions treatment center in Addison. Admission is $5. New Kaneland students who need bus transportation this fall should return school registration packets by Monday, the district has announced; otherwise, it will not guarantee bus service for the first two weeks of school. For information about registration, visit

The Batavia Park District has scheduled more meetings for residents to discuss what should be done with Hall Quarry Beach. The meetings are all at the beach, 400 S. Water St.; if it rains, they will move to the Civic Center, 327 W. Wilson St. The meetings are at 6 p.m. Aug. 5, 10, 12 and 24; and at noon Aug. 8 and 18.

Art festival seeks help:
