• Someone spray painted graffiti on the St. Charles Place Apartments sign on the northeast corner of 15th Street and Brook Street sometime between Friday and Saturday, police said.

• A black metal toolbox, a Milwaukee hammer drill and a DeWalt radio/charger were reported stolen from a van parked in the driveway of a private residence on the 1900 block of Moore Avenue between Friday and Saturday, police said. The van was left unlocked with the front windows down.

• A customer of a tavern on the 300 block of West Main Street was struck in the face with a beer bottle by an unknown person who then fled the scene before police could arrive. The incident occurred Sunday, according to police.

• Police are investigating a fire started by a Molotov cocktail at the St. Charles water well house on the 2900 block of North Fifth Avenue. Police found the east side light of the well house was broken and the fire started on the pavement parking area to the east of the building. A police report indicates the fire was apparently started by a beer bottle stuffed with cotton and what appeared to be gasoline. Police collected the pieces of the beer bottle and what was left of the cotton material for evidence and took photographs of the scene. Police interviews with neighbors showed residents were aware juveniles had been hanging out at the well house in the past and apparently gain access to the site through an adjacent golf course.

• Adolfo Perez, 37, of the 500 block of Lincoln Street in West Chicago, was arrested July 12 on charges of retail theft, according to a police report. Security at a Sears store on the 3700 block of East Main Street said they observed Perez enter the shoe department wearing a pair of white gym shoes, take a pair of work boots from a shelf and then walked away wearing different shoes than the ones he had on when he arrived at the store. Security detained Perez as he attempted to leave the store. The boots were valued at about $65. A police report indicates Perez was found with about $200 in his wallet when they transported him to the police station for booking.
