• Several well-known fireworks, such as firecrackers, bottle rockets and Roman candles, can be shot off only by qualified pyrotechnicians in Illinois.

• Fireworks like fountains, repeaters and parachutes are permitted only in municipalities and counties that allow them.

• Novelty fireworks such as snakes, sparklers and party-poppers are not regulated by the state.

• Always read and follow label directions.

• Always have an adult present and in charge of lighting off fireworks.

• Buy only from reliable fireworks sellers.

• Ignite fireworks only outdoors.

• Be sure to have water handy.

• Never attempt to make fireworks.

• Light only one at a time.

• Never reignite malfunctioning fireworks.

• Store fireworks in a cool, dry place.

• Dispose of fireworks properly.

• Never throw fireworks at another person.

• Never carry fireworks in your pocket.

• Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers.
