A 15-year old teen was in critical condition and three others including his father injured Friday evening in a crash on the Northwest Tollway in Elgin.

Illinois District 15 State Police said a Jeep Wrangler entered the tollway eastbound at Route 31 when the driver lost control and spun around striking an oncoming box truck.

The driver of the Jeep was not injured. The teen was in critical condition with a head injury and his father, who is in his early 40s, was in serious condition with a back injury. Police said the pair were from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

They were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, according to Elgin Fire Department Captain Dave Schmidt.

The two occupants of the box truck also were taken to Sherman Hospital, one with a minor hand injury and the other in serious condition with a back injury, Schmidt said.

Police were investigating the accident Friday evening and further detail was not immediately available.
