A 42-year-old Lake County man was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison after admitting to allegations he broke into his girlfriend's Island Lake home late last year and punched her.

Arttacgo A. Luckett, of the 2600 block of Elim Street in Zion, pleaded guilty to felony criminal trespassing stemming from the Dec. 5 incident in the 3600 block of Lakeview Drive.

Authorities said Luckett, who also listed a McHenry address in court documents, forced his way into the home during a domestic dispute with the 39-year-old woman, struck her in the face then tried to prevent her from calling 911 for help.

He initially was charged with home invasion, a Class X felony punishable by a mandatory six to 30 years in prison, but McHenry County prosecutors agreed to dismiss the charge as part of a plea bargain.

"We consulted with the victim and she concurred (with the agreement), so based on that and the facts and circumstances of the case, we think this was appropriate," Assistant McHenry County State's Attorney Michael Combs said.

Luckett, who was scheduled to go to trial next week, will receive credit toward his prison sentence for time he's spent behind bars in the county jail since his arrest in December.
