MURPHYSBORO -- A preliminary hearing is set for later this month for an accused drug-dealing southern Illinois sheriff charged with trying to hire someone to commit a murder.
Gallatin County Sheriff Raymond Martin was already jailed in Jackson County on federal marijuana-dealing charges when he was arrested Saturday on charges of solicitation of murder for hire.
His wife, 36-year-old Kristina Martin, and 20-year-old son, Cody Martin, also were arrested on identical solicitation charges as they came to visit Raymond Martin.
Each of them are jailed in Murphysboro on $1 million bond.
The county's state's attorney isn't commenting about the latest charges involving Martin, who federal prosecutors accused last year of selling marijuana, often while on duty. Martin's drug trial is pending.
