An Elgin man was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison for having sexual contact with two boys.

Michael J. Jackson, 32, of the 300 block of Raymond Street, was sentenced by Judge Timothy Q. Sheldon on two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and another charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse stemming from incidents that occurred between June 2004 and December 2006.

Jackson, who was not a stranger to the boys, was found guilty by Sheldon after a bench trial Nov. 2.

He was sentenced to 34 years on predatory criminal sexual assault charges, and must serve at least 85 percent of that term. He received a six-year sentence on the abuse charge, and has to serve at least 50 percent of it. He was given credit for 577 days served in the Kane County jail since his arrest.

The case was investigated by the Kane County Child Advocacy Center and prosecuted by assistant Kane County state's attorneys Christine Bayer and Lori Schmidt.

"The victims showed a tremendous amount of courage in coming forward and testifying against the defendant," Bayer said.
