A 32-year-old Cary man faces up to seven years in prison after admitting Tuesday he sexually molested a 10-year-old girl more than six years ago.

Miguel Lazaro, of the 300 block of North First Street, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony, stemming from accusations that surfaced early last year when the girl, now a teenager, confided with an official at her high school.

As part of the plea deal, McHenry County prosecutors dismissed a charge of predatory criminal sexual assault that would be punishable by a prion term of at least six and as many as 30 years. However, Assistant McHenry County State's Attorney Simeon Kim said Tuesday prosecutors will seek a prison term when Lazaro is sentenced Feb. 18.

Lazaro's attorney, Mario Perez, declined to comment on the case.

The charge to which Lazaro admitted alleged he fondled the girl in June 2003. Lazaro and the girl were not strangers at the time of the incident.

Lazaro remains free on $8,000 bond pending his sentencing. Besides a prison term of three to seven years, he also could be sentenced to probation.
