Palatine police and the FBI are investigating the robbery of a TCF National Bank in the village that occurred Saturday morning.

Officers received the call of an armed robbery at the bank branch inside a Jewel Food Store at 423 E. Dundee Road at 9:22 a.m., Palatine police Commander Randy Walker said.

According to investigators, the suspect handed the bank teller a note implying he had a weapon, however no weapon was ever actually seen.

The teller then gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect left the store through the east exit doors and headed east on foot.

The suspect is described as approximately 6 feet tall with a large build and wearing all dark clothing.

Business at the Jewel store was not affected, but security closed the TCF Bank immediately after the robbery while investigators questioned staff.

As is the case with all armed bank robberies, the FBI was immediately notified to assist with the investigation, Walker said. A regional bulletin also was posted for officers in surrounding towns to be on the lookout for the suspect.

The suspect still remained at large early Saturday afternoon.
