A registered sex offender out on bond on charges he exposed himself to young girls at a Barrington swimming pool in June was arrested on similar charges in Gurnee Friday.

Jeffrey R. Sonderman, 53, of the 8300 block of Kostner Avenue in Skokie was charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a child, visiting a public park as a child sex offender, violation of the sex offender registration act, public indecency and resisting arrest.

A new bond amount of $500,000 was set for Sonderman, who was brought to the Lake County jail.

Gurnee officers received a call at 4:02 p.m. Friday of a man exposing himself at the Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center at 900 N. Hunt Club Road.

According to police, witnesses copied down the man's license plate as he fled the park in a 2000 gray Jeep Cherokee. The registration identified the owner as Sonderman, a registered sex offender.

Officers located Sonderman at a motel on the 3000 block of Belvidere Road in Waukegan at approximately 5:26 p.m. Friday. A short foot chase ensued before Sonderman was taken into custody.

Barrington police charged Sonderman in June with multiple felony and misdemeanor charges including public indecency, sexual exploitation of a child and unlawful communication with a child at a park after investigating reports of a man fitting his description who was fondling and exposing himself at the Langendorf Park pool on May 23.

According to the Illinois Sex Offender database, Sonderman was previously convicted in Cook County of exposing himself and sexual exploitation of a child when he was 49 and the victim was 13.
