PEKIN -- A Tazewell County grand jury has indicted four sheriff's department correction officers for allegedly beating an inmate in 2006.

Those charged include Sgt. Michael Harper and corrections officers Joel Brown, Eric Rasmussen and Schad Martin. All face counts of felony official misconduct. Brown also is charged with felony aggravated battery.

Twenty-three-year-old Charles L. Chandler of Washington says he suffered a broken jaw and several ribs during the beating on November 6, 2006. Chandler has filed a lawsuit against Tazewell County, Sheriff Bob Huston and four jailers, saying he was stripped naked and beaten.

Chandler is seeking a total of $5 million, an additional $100,000 from each of the four jailers, plus attorneys fees.
