Barrington police have charged a registered child sex offender with exposing himself to several young girls at a public swimming pool last month.

Jeffrey R. Sonderman, 53, of the 8300 block of Kostner Ave., Skokie, faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including public indecency, sexual exploitation of a child and unlawful communication with a child at a park, police said.

He was arrested Thursday.

Barrington Acting Police Chief Jerry Libit said his department received numerous reports on May 24 of a man fondling and exposing himself while sitting on the edge of the pool at Langendorf Park the previous day.

None of the victims was touched or physically harmed.

A description of the offender narrowed the search to Sonderman, who was asked to come to the police station to discuss the matter Thursday, when he was ultimately charged, Libit said.

According to the Illinois Sex Offender database, Sonderman was previously convicted in Cook County of exposing himself and sexual exploitation of a child when he was 49 and the victim was 13.
