New member on BG disabilities board

The Buffalo Grove village board on Monday approved the appointment of Courtney Weisman to the Commission for Residents with Disabilities. Commission Chair Rick Kahen said, "She is a very bright and committed young person with apparent passion for and knowledge of disability issues." There are currently 12 members on the commission.

St. Simon's hosts a cappella concert

St. Simon's Episcopal Church will present Ravenswood Consort, a Chicago-based a cappella vocal ensemble in a free concert, "A Brief Traverse of English Choral Music: Medieval to Modern," at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26. St. Simon's is at 717 Kirchoff Road, Arlington Heights.

CEDA Resale Shop having special sale

The Community Economic Development Agency Resale Shop at 676 N. Wolf Road in Des Plaines is presently having a special clothing sale; buy one clothing item for $1 and get three $1 pieces for free. In addition, all designer clothing is 75 percent off.

The CEDA shop sells "gently used" clothing, furniture, housewares and toys at low cost. Revenue helps pay for a variety of CEDA programs in the Northwest suburbs to assist individuals in assimilating back into society. CEDA also helps with housing, utility assistance, financial counseling, employment aid, health, nutrition and child care. To seek that assistance, individuals are invited to visit CEDA's office at 1300 Northwest Hwy, Mount Prospect.

The Resale Shop is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and is always looking for volunteer help and donations.

Firehouse pancake day in Prospect Hts.

The Prospect Heights Lions club and the Prospect Heights Fire Department will hold a pancake breakfast 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the Prospect Heights Fire House, 10 E. Camp McDonald Road, Prospect Heights. Proceeds will help the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District buy a rescue boat. A silent auction will be held for a free ride on a fire truck to take a child and three of his/her friends to school. The Lions will also sponsor free hearing exams.

Cost for the breakfast is $6 adults; $5 children 3-12; and free for children under 3. There is a $1 discount per ticket when you bring three cans of food, which will be donated to the St. Alphonsus food pantry and the Wheeling Township Food drive.

American Legion dinner dance today

American Legion Post 208, 121 N. Douglas, Arlington Heights, is hosting a dinner/dance from 6-10 p.m. today, April 24. The $10 price includes a spaghetti dinner and proceeds benefit the Hines Fisher House. Call (847) 253-6632.
