Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says it'd be unfair for the city's police union to try and link a pay dispute to Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Olympics.

The Fraternal Order of Police says it'll picket City Hall Thursday -- the day International Olympic Committee officials arrive to assess the city's Olympic bid.

Union officials are upset about the status of contract negotiations. The current contract expired in 2007.

Daley told reporters Saturday that the Olympic bid is a vision for Chicago that's bigger than him or the union. He says officers can demonstrate, but "it won't have any effect."

Daley also called President Barack Obama the "quarterback" of the city's bid. Obama will present Chicago's final pitch at an IOC meeting in October.
