Schaumburg police are investigating the attempted luring of a child that occurred at 1 p.m. Saturday near Syracuse and Vassar lanes.

Police said a man drove a van up to an 11-year-old girl walking her dog and asked her to get in the van and help him look for his own dog.

When the girl declined and backed away, the man yelled at her to get into the van, police said. The girl then ran from the area and told her parents while the man left the area in an unknown direction.

The man never left the van during the encounter, nor was the girl touched or injured, police said.

According to the girl's description, the man is white, approximately 30 years old with dark hair with light streaks combed back with gel. He wore a checkered shirt and had a nose ring in his pierced right nostril.

The vehicle was a dark blue full size conversion van with an unknown license plate.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have been in the area and seen the suspect or vehicle to contact them at (847) 882-3534.
