A Lakemoor man was sentenced to 30 months in jail Friday after admitting he repeatedly molested a 9-year-old girl in 2004.

Carl Malchow, 72, will be released from custody only to go to work or to receive health and sexual offender treatment.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Dan Kleinhubert said the girl told her mother she had been repeatedly molested by Malchow between April and August 2004.

The attacks took place when the girl would visit Malchow at his home in the 200 block of Drydock, and always when Malchow was alone with the girl.

Detectives from the Lake County Children's Advocacy Center interviewed the girl and referred the case to the Lake County Sheriff's office.

Sheriff's police arrested Malchow on Jan. 25, 2007 and charged him with aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

In addition to the jail time, Circuit Judge Fred Foreman ordered Malchow to serve four years on probation. Malchow also must complete sex offender counseling at his own expense, and pay up to $200 per month for counseling for the victim.

Foreman banned Malchow from possessing or using computers for the duration of his probation.

Kleinhubert said Malchow would have been eligible for a prison sentence of up to seven years had he been convicted after a trial.
