Biondi seeks toys in Aurora

Chicago radio disc jockey Dick Biondi's toy drive makes a stop tonight at Westfield Fox Valley Mall on Route 59 in Aurora. Biondi will broadcast on 94.7 WLS-FM and online at 947trueoldies.com from inside the mall where he and his "elves" will collect toys from 6 p.m. to midnight. The new, unwrapped toys will benefit the Uhlich Children's Advantage Network, which supports abused, troubled or neglected children. Biondi will return from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday to collect additional donations.

Coat drive to help needy

Gently worn, clean coats, hats, scarves and gloves are being collected through today to give to Aurora students and senior citizens in need. The drive is being conducted by 2nd Ward Alderman Juan Garza, 7th Ward Alderman Scheketa Hart-Burns and the city's youth services department. Items can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the youth and sports activities department, 501 College Ave., Suite 304, or at the aldermen's office, 60 E. Downer Place. Those unable to drop the donations off can call (630) 264-8266 to ask about coat pickup.

Toys needed for giveaway

For more than 20 years the Elgin Community Holiday Toy Giveaway has collected and distributed more than 5,000 toys and gifts to 2,500 children in Elgin and South Elgin. Organizers anticipate the need for even more gifts this year. New toys or monetary donations to purchase toys are acceptable; a list of toys is available at crisiscenter.org. Monetary donations can be sent to the Community Crisis Center, P.O. Box 1390, Elgin, IL 60121-1390; designate Toy Giveaway in the memo field. Toys can be dropped off at three locations: Grand Victoria Casino, Elgin Township Office, or Habitat for Humanity Re-Store in Elgin. This year's giveaway is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin. For details, call Lea at (847) 742-4088.
