The Chicago Blackhawks have surpassed the franchise record of 13,425 season ticket holders set in 1994-95, during the inaugural campaign at the United Center, team officials announced today.

And a near-capacity crowd is expected for tonight's home preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, marking the most tickets sold for a home preseason contest in franchise history.

"Chicago is a hockey city and this is a tribute to our great fans and their hunger for a return to the glory days of the Blackhawks," said Jay Blunk, senior vice president of Business Operations.

Season ticket sales for the 2008-2009 Blackhawks season have increased 300 percent from October 2007 when the base was 3,400, according to the team.

Season tickets are still available for the 2008-09 season by calling the Blackhawks at (312) 455-7000.

"Our players are very excited to play in front of a full house every night at the United Center and it's our mission to reward these fans with a playoff-caliber team that keeps them on their feet all season." Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon said.

Single game tickets are also available at chicagoblackhawks.com, by calling (312) 559-1212, at all Ticketmaster ticket centers, at the United Center ticket office and at HawkQuarters. Group tickets are available by calling the Chicago Blackhawks at 312-455-7000.

The Blackhawks launch their four-game preseason home slate when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets at the United Center at 7:30 p.m. today.
