District 33 agrees to study

The school board of West Chicago Elementary District 33 has voted to pursue a study to determine the impact of consolidating with West Chicago High School and two other elementary school districts, Benjamin Elementary District 25 and Winfield Elementary District 34. Last week, the District 34 school board also voted to pursue a consolidation study. District 25 will be voting on the proposal at its board meeting on Aug. 11.

Winfield Run registration

Registration still is being accepted for the 25th annual Winfield Run. The race will start Aug. 9 with a mile-long run/walk beginning at 7:45 a.m., and the 5-kilometer run/walk and 10-kilometer run starting at 8 a.m. The races will begin at Lions Park along Beecher Street two blocks west of Winfield Road in Winfield. Participants can register from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at Glen Ellyn Running Company, 528 Duane Terrace, Glen Ellyn. Registration is $20 before Aug. 7 and $25 thereafter. Aurora police traffic sting

The Aurora Police Department's traffic division recently staged four operations that netted a total of 104 citations and 33 warnings. The latest operations concentrated on accident-prone locations across Aurora, including stretches of Liberty Street, Indian Trail, Farnsworth Avenue and West Galena Boulevard. Most of the citations were for speeding. Aurora statistics show motor vehicle crashes are down 2.1 percent through July 19. The department's goal is to reduce traffic accidents in the city by 5 percent.

Sheriff roadside safety check

Motorists traveling Route 59 in the West Chicago area on Aug. 1 may be stopped as part of a roadside safety check. Motorists will be directed to a checkpoint area and will be asked to provide their driver's license and proof of insurance. Officers with the DuPage County sheriff's office and West Chicago police are conducting the operation in search of impaired motorists and other traffic violators.
