A campaign finance report shows Illinois Representative Peter Roskam has $1.21 million in cash in his political fund for his re-election bid.

Roskam succeeded fellow conservative Republican Henry Hyde two years ago after the House legend retired.

For the second quarter ended June 30th, Roskam reported having raised about $408,000 while spending about $165,000. Debts amounted to about $37,000.

The former state legislator defeated Iraq war veteran Tammy Duckworth. It was one of the nation's hardest fought congressional races in what was generally a strong year for Democrats nationwide. For that election cycle, he spent $3.3 million, including the GOP primary.

He again faces an Iraq war veteran this time, Army Colonel Jill Morgenthaler, whose campaign finance report wasn't immediately available.
