Two suburban Starbucks locations are among the company's first 50 stores to shut their doors.
A cafe in Elmhurst at North Avenue and York and one at 167th and Crawford in Country Club Hills are slated to close by the end of the month.
Starbucks announced earlier this month that it would begin closing 600 company-owned stores in the U.S. this summer. The move is a change from the company's aggressive expansion plans.
Starbucks says the store closings are part of an effort to regain its footing in a faltering economy and to get rid of unprofitable locations.
