The fifth annual 5K Oak Brook Park District Run for Fun will be July 20, starting and finishing at Kensington Road and Kensington Court, across from the post office in Oak Brook. Registration will be from 6 to 8 a.m. and the 5K will start at 8 a.m. The Tot Trot Obstacle Course, for children 13 and younger, will start at 8:45 a.m. The cost for the 5K is: $30 for mail or walk-in entries until July 11 and $35 after; $29 for CARA members; $25 for seniors 55 or older; $1 for the Tot Trot obstacle course. Register by July 14 for the Law Enforcement Torch Run Plane Pull to benefit Special Olympics Illinois July 26 at the DuPage Airport in West Chicago. Check-in starts at 8 a.m. and the contest starts at 9 a.m. Teams of 10 will have two attempts to pull a 70,000-pound plane 20 feet. The three teams with the fastest times will compete in the grand championship. Each team must raise a minimum of $500 to compete. The event is part of the airport's Community Days. Register by July 17 for the Good Samaritan United Methodist Church of Addison's 13th annual Golf Outing and Best Ball Scramble July 27 at Salt Creek Golf Club, 701 W. Thorndale Ave., Wood Dale. Register by Aug. 8 for the eighth annual Swing for Sight golf classic on Aug. 15 at Bliss Creek Golf Course, 1 Golfview Road, Sugar Grove. Check-in starts at 10 a.m., followed by tee time at 11 a.m. Dinner and prize presentations start at 6 p.m. The cost is $110, which includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch, prizes and dinner. The cost for dinner only is $40 for adults and $20 for children 9 and younger. Proceeds will benefit Hope for Vision, a not-for-profit organization that helps to fund research on retinal diseases. The Villa Park Kiwanis Summer Concerts will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, July 9-23, in the gazebo on the Illinois Prairie Path, Ardmore and Central avenues. Performers include local musicians and church choirs July 9; the Hoyle Brothers July 16 and The Only Sons July 23. The Lombard Area American Association of University Women will accept donations for its annual book sale from 5 to 8 p.m. July 11 and 18 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 12 and 19 at First Church of Lombard, 220 S. Main St. Textbooks, encyclopedia sets, magazines and Reader's Digest editions will not be accepted. For those not able to drive, call (630) 932-0224 to have donations picked up. Proceeds from the book sale will benefit the AAUW scholarship fund.

The third annual Ride to the Rock motorcycle road rally is July 12. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Wal-Mart, Route 53 and Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn, and the first bike will leave at 10:30 a.m. The ride proceeds to Starved Rock State Park in Utica, where lunch will be served. The cost is $25 per rider and $10 per passenger. Proceeds will benefit the Leukemia Research Foundation, through its Dad's Chapter, in partnership with the Chicago Regional Chapter of the American Society of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers. This year's ride will honor the memory of the Ride to the Rock founder, Ken Wentink, who died from leukemia in April. Literacy DuPage is offering a six-session volunteer tutor training course from 6 to 9 p.m. July 22, 24, 29, 31, Aug. 5 and 19 at the Wheaton Public Library, 225 N. Cross St. Volunteers must be 18 or older, have a high school diploma and be able to read, write and speak English fluently. No teaching experience is necessary. Volunteers must attend all six training sessions. Tutors meet with their learners at a time and location that is convenient for both. Holy Ghost Church will present the Broadway musical "My Fair Lady" July 25-27 and Aug. 1-3 at the Center for the Performing Arts at Wood Dale Junior High, 655 N. Wood Dale Road. The DuPage Habitat for Humanity golf outing fundraiser will be Aug. 11 at Klein Creek Golf Course, 1N333 Pleasant Hill Road, Winfield.
