A federal probe has led to a new indictment against a man who spent four years in prison for molesting three girls he coached at a Hanover Park gymnastics club.

The indictment comes less than a month after police in Warren, Mich., arrested Bryan C. Brown, the former Gymkhana Gymnastics Club coach, on state charges of criminal sexual contact with a 5-year-old girl.

Brown, 38, now also faces federal charges of sexual exploitation of children and possession of child pornography after authorities said he videotaped the same girl engaging in sex acts he coerced.

The federal grand jury indictment was announced by U.S. Attorney Stephen Murphy III in Detroit and resulted from a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigation.

Brown, who has been living in Warren and working in construction, remains in Macomb County jail in Michigan on $1 million bond. He faces up to 50 years in prison for the federal charges because of his Illinois conviction, officials said.

Authorities allege that between June 2007 and April 2008, Brown enticed and coerced the girl, who is not related to him, to engage in sexual explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a videotape of the act.

Immigration and customs officials began investigating Brown after identifying him as a possible paid subscriber to a child pornography Web site. The probe was part of Operation Predator, a national initiative targeting pedophiles, Internet predators, human traffickers, international sex tourists and other predatory criminals.

Warren police independently opened an investigation of the sexual misconduct allegations following Brown's April arrest for possession of marijuana, Detective Bob Krist has said.

The victim was removed from the home and taken into protective custody, where police said she made statements alleging the sexual misconduct.

Authorities then searched the house and confiscated a computer, videotapes and CDs, which were reviewed by federal authorities, Krist said.

Brown was living in Elk Grove Village at the time of his 1997 arrest. He eventually pleaded guilty to molesting three girls at Gymkhana in Hanover Park and received an eight-year prison sentence. He served nearly half before his October 2003 release, an Illinois Department of Corrections spokeswoman said.

He's listed on the Illinois sex offender registry as living in Warren.
