A rural St. Charles man will serve 1½ months in the Kane County jail and four years on a strict probation regimen for attempting to send sexually explicit images of children via the Internet.

George C. Weathered IV, 25, pleaded guilty to a child pornography offense filed last spring after he was arrested in a federal sting, prosecutors said Thursday.

On May 25, 2007, Weathered was charged after FBI agents searched his home in the 41W block of Woodland Drive and found hundreds of photographs and movies on his computer of children being sexually assaulted.

Investigators had targeted the home after federal agents downloaded child pornography from an Internet address matching Weathered's computer, prosecutor Justin Fitzsimmons said.

"This is an appropriate sentence based on the defendant's attempt to perpetuate trading images of the rape of children on the Internet," Fitzsimmons said.

Weathered was sentenced to 90 days in jail but can be released in 45 days for good behavior. He also must register for life as a sex offender, according to the terms of his plea signed off on by Judge Patricia Piper Golden.

He also must serve sex offender probation, which prohibits him from contact with children and limits his Internet use to e-mail, and requires him to undergo a psychological evaluation.

Weathered also must pay about $12,500 in fines and court costs, prosecutors said.
