Program to focus on artist Hopper

Dist. 33 is selling scholarship tickets

West Chicago Elementary District 33's Foundation for Educational Excellence is selling tickets for its $10,000 college scholarship through Friday.

Tickets are $20 each, with just 1,000 tickets being sold. A second-place prize of a $500 savings bond is offered.

The drawing will take place May 1 at the District 33 board of education meeting. Tickets are available at all District 33 schools; the district office, 312 E. Forest Ave., West Chicago; online at foundation.wegoed33.site.eboard.com; or by calling Becky Koltz at (630) 293-6000, ext. 201.

St. Francis grant will benefit adults

St. Francis High School's outreach ministry received a $15,000 grant from the Sisters of Mercy of Chicago. The grant will be used to expand the school's efforts to educate and motivate adults and directly impact 500 clients of the social service agencies served by the high school in Wheaton.

Essays to focus on the best moms

JB Winterberry's shop in Wheaton is sponsoring a Mother of the Year contest, with entries accepted beginning May 1 at the store or via mail at 124 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187.

The short essay should describe why your mother is special. Only one mom will receive an afternoon in Wheaton with a gift certificate for the shop, a tea or lunch and free haircut, color and facial.

Nutritionist to talk about vitamins

Glenbard North High School will feature nutritionist David W. Grotto discussing what vitamins and supplements are safe for teens at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the school, 990 Kuhn Road, Carol Stream.

The program is sponsored by the Athletic Boosters. Grotto is host of live radio "Let's Talk Health, CHICAGO!" and the TV program "Health & Lifestyles Weekly." His book is "101 Foods That Could Save Your Life."

Book sale to benefit scholarship fund

The AAUW of the College of DuPage will hold its annual Book Music and Movie Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 30 in the Student Resource Center Room 1480, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.

Proceeds benefit the scholarship fund for women overcoming obstacles to attend college.

Donations for the sale may be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the south entrance of the student center near the cafeteria.

Singers and players sought for groups

The Wheaton Symphony Chorus is seeking singers for its summer season until June. Membership is open to high school, college and adult singers without audition. There is a need for tenors and basses. The concerts will be June 24 and Aug. 1-2.

The Wheaton Symphony Orchestra is accepting applications for string players, especially high school and college players with advanced abilities. Auditions will be from 9 a.m. to noon May 17, with rehearsals and concerts June 14, 24, July 12, 22 and Aug. 1-2.
