Rags to Riches, the first filly in 102 years to win the Belmont Stakes, has been retired. Rags to Riches edged Preakness winner Curlin after a thrilling stretch duel in the race last June at Belmont Park in New York.

The champion 3-year-old filly will be shipped to Ashford Stud in Kentucky. She will be bred to leading sire Giant's Causeway.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Rags to Riches won five of six races last year and finished with $1.3 million in career earnings. Rags to Riches finished second in her last race, the Gazelle Stakes at Belmont last Sept. 15.

The filly sustained a fracture between her ankle and hoof during the race.
